CASES OF
PNEUMONIA What is Pneumonia ? Pneumonia is inflammation affecting the tissue of the lung – most often
due to infection. Host of conditions favor infection of lung tissue
causing pneumonia.
The major symptoms of pneumonia are:
Treatment offered by allopathic system of medicine is antibiotics. Cases: Of Pneumonia
Before
coming under our care both these children, had undergone immense
suffering. They had been falling seriously ill and had been in and out of
hospitals. Both of them suffered from pneumonia - a serious disease with a
potential to go into fatal complications. Case 1: This is a case of an 8-˝ years old girl who was suffering from frequent cough with fever since the age of 1-˝ years. By the age of 3 years she was a full-blown case of bronchial asthma. She was completely dependent on bronchodilators and steroids on regular basis. Her asthmatic bouts had become very frequent and in last 3 years she had multiple episodes of pneumonia. Dry,
incomplete, tight cough, breathlessness and constant coryza had become
regular features. Her
mother was already under our care when she asked us whether we could cure
her daughter. Such severe were the asthmatic episodes that her mother was
terrified at the thought of stopping bronchodilators and steroids. She was
skeptical, as already the child had been under the care of another
homoeopath and the medicines that he had prescribed had not helped her
even a little bit! We explained to the mother that once the child is
under our care, as we withdraw the suppressive drugs, she was sure to get
an asthmatic attack as well as pneumonia and we assured her that it will
be taken care of only with homoeopathic medicines. In order to heal
the child it was very important that there was no intervention by any
suppressive line of treatment. It took the parents full three months to decide and
gather courage before starting our medication, as in spite of the
allopathic treatment; their daughter’s health had very rapidly plunged
down hill. We spoke to parents in detail and then on
understanding her thoroughly in her mind and body, including mother’s
state during pregnancy, we started her treatment. On starting the treatment, initially, as expected, she
did get acute attacks of asthma, which were solely taken care of with
homoeopathic medicine. Slowly, steadily the attacks became less frequent
and her general health improved. Then her old problem of pneumonia recurred (see
roentgenograph below).
With pneumonia she got extremely sick. She complained of pain in the right side of her chest on coughing and had to hold it while coughing. She also complained of right shoulder pain. She felt very cold and was shivering. She was running high fever 103° F with severe headache. She felt extremely weak. Her cough was very tight … she felt choked. She
constantly asked her grandfather or mother to rub her gently on her right
shoulder and chest, which would sooth her pain. On classical homoeopathic
medication within a day, her fever, which was continuously in the range of
101 – 103° F, came down and in next 2 days it totally disappeared. In
general she was feeling much better … had no chest pain and gradually
her cough also disappeared. Within
7 to 10 days she was full of energy and was beaming health. We repeated
her chest roentgenograph, which was absolutely normal (see roentgenograph
below). By then she was all set to go abroad to play in snow!!
Case 2: This
is a case of a 10 years old girl who was brought in for consultation in
October 2001. She was suffering from severe asthma since the age of 3
years and was completely dependent on bronchodilators every day. Due to
constant suffering she had developed a hunch back. Also, her growth was
affected and she was the smallest girl in her class!! After
going through her case thoroughly we started her treatment and gradually
she improved over the period of 3 years. From day one, all allopathic
medicines were stopped and each acute exacerbation of asthma was taken
care of only with the indicated homoeopathic remedy. By
the end of year 2005 her asthmatic attacks had reduced in frequency and
intensity considerably and she had developed eruptions in the bends of her
elbows. In February 2006 she came to the clinic feeling very sick. Since a
day she had developed high fever 102° F with sever headache. On entering
the consulting chamber the first thing she complained was of sever
stomachache … “it’s paining me too much !” she wailed. She
looked very ill and in great pain and discomfort. She walked in bending
forward. The
night before she had vomited. She told us that she was feeling extremely
weak … she said, “ I feel so weak that I will faint ”. She
said, “I am feeling very breathless and I can’t even cough! It hurts
so much”. On enquiring further, she revealed that she was scared to
cough as it caused severe pain in stomach and ribs. As
she narrated her symptoms, she looked and sounded in intense pain. She
coughed very shallow … as if trying to suppress the cough. She
had severe body ache. After
a thorough physical examination and on auscultation of her chest, we
suspected pneumonia involving the left lower lobe of the lung. (This
was a very atypical presentation and therefore in every case a thorough
physical examination is very vital to come to a diagnosis). We asked
for investigations and as we had suspected her chest roentgenograph
revealed left lower lobe consolidation and collapse (see roentgenographs
below).
We
prescribed her the remedy. The very next day, she started feeling better
in all her complains. Her fever, headache, stomachache, pain in the ribs,
weakness all had reduced in intensity. In
the following 2 days she improved speedily. Her fever touched normal and
on the 5th day she walked into the clinic smiling!! She wanted our
permission to attend school!! In the next 7 days she completely recovered
and a follow-up roentgenograph was done on 20th February 2006, which
showed complete recovery (see roentgenograph below).
