CASE OF ASTHMA
What
is Asthma? Described
simply, asthma is a condition in which there is contraction of breathing
tubes of the lungs, producing a range of respiratory problems such as
wheezing, cough etc. It is episodic, interspersed with symptom free
period. Asthma is grouped in 7 categories: allergenic, pharmacological, environmental, occupational, infectious, exercise-related, and emotional. The belief that psychological forces may trigger a specific disease has long prevailed for many diseases. One of the first with which this belief was associated is asthma. It is considered a psychosomatic disease. An asthmatic attack is triggered by inhaling an allergic substance or by certain strong emotions … even crying and laughing may trigger it. What
kind of treatment is offered by allopathic system of medicine? Bronchodilators drugs such as theophylline, salbutamol are administered to produce airway dilatation. Glucoorticoids (steroids) have been used for many years in the treatment of asthma, but controversy still surrounds such basic issues as their specific indication and dose. Glucoorticoids are not bronchodilators. The most common side effects of these bronchodilators (salbutamol, theophyllin) are nervousness, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and headache. Excess of it in blood circulation poses risk of seizures (convulsion) and cardiac arrhythmias (heart not beating in rhythm). Opiates, sedatives, and tranquilizers should be absolutely avoided in the acutely ill asthmatic.
Case: This is a case of a young doctor 26 yrs old suffering from severe asthma. Being a M.B.B.S. doctor naturally she had tried everything in allopathy before coming for homoeopathic treatment. Her problem of asthma started at the age of 17 years after her grand mothers death. She was treated allopathically and the asthma was suppressed. After that she started having regular asthmatic attacks and her health was deteriorating day by day. She was put on prolonged steroid treatment … for 2 years she was taking cortisone. Being an allopath she very well knew her chances of getting cured by those medicines. This really depressed her as by now asthma had become a limiting for her in whatever she wanted to do in her life. She was also suffering from constipation, leucorrhoea, eruptions on back and shoulder and hair fall. We spoke to
her in detail and then on understanding her thoroughly in her mind and
body we started her treatment. She
steadily improved under ‘Classical’ Homoeopathic treatment and in 3
years she was completely cured of asthma as well as every other health
problem. Previously
any emotional stress would bring on acute asthmatic attack but under
Classical Homoeopathic treatment she improved emotionally also …
coping up with stresses in a healthy manner. Today
she is happily married and is off
all medications. To
achieve this kind of beautiful, speedy cure it is very important that
the acute attack is also taken care of homoeopathically. You can see in this case of asthma, emotional stress had been playing a very vital role in causing / triggering an asthmatic attack. There is a very wonderful medical incidence told by a physician Dr. John Noland Mackenzi. This is about one of his patients … a woman age 32 yrs. living in excellent circumstances and surrounded by all the comforts of life. She was well nourished but physically suffered from violent coryza (running nose) and severe asthma attacks. During the attack she would run high fever between 100 °F to 105°F. These attacks were so violent that sometimes she would become unconscious. The doctor studied her case in detail and found out many factors and allergies that could cause or provoke the attack, but she seemed especially sensitive to the smell of roses. She had tried everything possible to get relief in her suffering but nothing made any impression on her disease. Dr. Mackenzie also treated her for few days without any results. Then he made a plan … for the purpose of the experiment, he obtained an artificial rose, which was of excellent workmanship that it presented a perfect counterfeit of the original. During her next visit the woman was telling the doctor how much better she was feeling when he began his experiment. He produced the artificial rose from behind a screen where it had been hidden, and sitting before her, held it in his hand. In a course of a few minutes she started sneezing, and within 5 minutes the woman was having a full-fledged asthma (allergic) attack. This was exactly what she would be suffering if the doctor had been holding a real rose!! When she was told that the rose was an artificial one she was amazed and had to touch and examine it to believe that it was indeed and artificial rose. As she left the
doctors clinic, though she was having severe coryza and asthma, she was
assured that her disease is not incurable after all. A few days later,
she returned to the clinic and on that occasion she buried her nose in a
large fragrant real rose and did not get even a single
sneeze!! So the CAUSE of the woman’s rose-cold and asthma lay not in her nose but in her head. This reconfirms the medical importance of MENTAL STATE in every disease, including allergies and every other disease.
