What is cirrhosis of liver ?

Cirrhosis is derived from Greek word ‘kirrhos’ meaning yellow color.

It is a diffuse process characterized by fibrosis and the conversion of normal architecture of liver into structurally abnormal nodules. 

Factors responsible for cirrhosis: 

In cirrhosis there is massive death of liver cells, followed by distortion of liver architecture. The whole liver is involved, resulting in liver cell insufficiency.

What treatment does allopathic system of medicine offer?

No treatment is available for restoring loss of liver cell function. It is only palliative.

 Prognosis: depends upon the cause and extent of liver cell failure. Persistence of jaundice carries a bad prognosis.

 

Case:  Of  complete  LIVER  CELL  FAILURE  with  DIABETES.

 

This is the case of a 53 years old man suffering from cirrhosis of liver. He came to see us in desperation. He said, ‘ I assure you; I will do what ever you say. If you tell me to live on leaves, I am ready to do that too!’ 

He complained of the following symptoms:

§         Loss of appetite.

§         Enlargement of abdomen due to accumulation of fluid i.e. ascitis

§         Jaundice

§         Pain in abdomen

§         Weakness

§         Swelling of the whole body.

§         Pain right shoulder

§         Sexual desire diminished since this illness.

 He was into complete liver – cell failure.

Ultra Sound upper abdomen: Finding suggestive of chronic liver disease, gall bladder sludge, mild splenomegaly, mild ascitis, minimal left pleural effusion.

 

He lived abroad and had flown down to Mumbai specifically for his treatment. He had consulted the top most gastroenterologist from a well-known research hospital in Mumbai but in spite of taking all the medicines as per advice, his condition kept deteriorating. Ascitis fluid taping was done to relieve the ascitis but in no time the fluid accumulated again causing him great discomfort. He fell extremely sick with his liver function showing grave deterioration. 

The doctor opined that he had liver cell failure with 80 % of the liver damaged and liver transplant was the only hope for him to survive. He was given an estimated cost of 65 lacs but with the caution that even after that the prognosis was not too good. Also, if he did not want to consider transplant he had a life expectancy of not more than 5 months. That’s the time when he consulted us … he said, “I want to live for 10 more years! Help me to survive at least for 10 years. I will be highly obliged!!”  

His major health problem started about 5 years back when he lost his only son, 24 years old, in an accident. This tragic incidence had a devastating effect on him. “ Now there is nothing left for me in life “ … he felt and took to drinking alcohol heavily. 

Also, his blood test revealed that he had diabetes mellitus.

Back from abroad, he was feeling absolutely perfect!! But he faced a totally different problem. With a grave expression on his face he expressed … “I never anticipated that your homoeopathic medicines could cause this kind of a problem!”…Obviously we were also taken aback as in front of us was a man beaming with health with happiness written all over his face and mischief in his eyes…we enquired as to what happened? …What followed was very interesting … He said, “While leaving India, I was stopped at the international airport in Mumbai … the reason?  The immigration officer couldn’t identify me with the photograph on my passport!!” The swelling of his body had disappeared. As he grew healthier by the day his clinical investigations revealed a normal liver function (done in one of the best and recognized hospital and research centre in Mumbai). He sent his reports to his company boss who had sent a letter of termination of his services considering the graveness of his illness. A large amount was due to be paid to him as final settlement. He said, “The board members had refused to recognize his recovery as they were told by the medical experts there that there is no cure for this illness and it was impossible according to them that he could recover.” To medically evaluate him thoroughly they sent him to London for a complete clinical check up and fresh investigations. A confidential medical test report was sent to the company which once again turned our to be normal! They happily reinitiated him back with all his office responsibilities and he is there even as you read this but still under our vigilant care.
